Sue Rock Originals Everyone started in 2007 as an experiment in “Yes We Can”. Starting as a way to resource the abundance of materials posted all over the internet during the decline of the garment industry in New York we soon found that these resources deserved a more valuable use.
Our work is successful because our ENTIRE operations are run on donated materials. We look forward to using this section of our blog to include the stories of the phenomenal people we have met in the past and the wonderful people we will meet in the future.
But for now, let us let YOU know how this thing works:
SUE ROCK ORIGINALS EVERYONE ACCEPTS RAW MATERIAL DONATIONS.
Raw material donations are everything that one would need to create something textile based and beautiful. Some items include:
Lace Snaps/Hook & Eyes
Rug Hooking Kits Braiding Kits
Macrame Supplies Belting: Leather, Buckles, Closures
Weaving supplies Knitting Machines and tools
Coned Yarns – and much more.
We receive these items from
The Fashion Industry
The Interior Design Industry
Costumers in the Entertainment Industry
and wonderful people who are creative!
We also have assisted families in ensuring that the textile tools of their loved ones find an active and worthwhile home.
ALL MATERIALS ARE USED TO RESTORE THE LIVES OF SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
We use these raw materials :
– when we engage our volunteers in making warm garments for women in the cold weather months!
– to teach survivors how to make beautiful clothing and accessories
– to restore the textile skills of our community by teaching the old and young time honored traditions of rug hooking, weaving and macrame.
– to educate students in the dynamics of patternmaking and entrepreneurship.
DO YOU TAKE CLOTHING?
We are unable to receive clothing donations at this time. Our mission is to train women in the textile arts – teaching lessons of self-empowerment.
If you or a loved one is in the garment industry or have a personal stash you would like to let go of, simply contact us at email@example.com We can make the arrangements get your items in the hands of women in need!
